Flosstube #12 was all about haul…you know, all the great stitchy stuff we buy or have sent to us? This week, I received a major haul from DMC and I am over the moon with joy! Thank you DMC for all my new toys! Since I can only go over so much in a video, I’ve added details to some of my favorites here, and linked them to where you can find these products, either at DMC.com or Amazon.com (As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. These links help us take care of our herd of ten stitching buddies, like Pixie Pop!). Ready…Set…Haul!
Who doesn’t love a tin? This dark blue Vintage Collectors Tin was full of bits of stitchy goodness! It came with a beautiful (and sharp!) thread/yarn cutter with a matching vintage style needle case, and a pack of size 5 embroidery needles to go in it! Then there was floss! Ten skeins of six-strand embroidery floss and four skeins of sparkly Moulin Etoile…lovely! And even a sweet little pattern to use the floss on. It makes such a lovely gift!
Punch needle has become my newest endeavor (let’s face it…I love any art form that lets me buy new fibers!) and there are lots of free punch needle patterns for you to try for free here! I enjoy using balls of thread rather than smaller six-skein embroidery floss so I don’t have to separate the threads. Depending on the detail in the pattern, I may use three different sizes of thread: Size 5, 8 or 12 (the higher the number, the finer the thread). I had no idea all the different colors DMC offered! They are like Pokemon…I need to collect them all!
Speaking of gorgeous pearl cotton thread, DMC sells Size 5 skeins that are perfect for punch needle because they need no separation. And you will not believe the color varieties they have in store for you…I was so surprised! I now have so many color choices I don’t know where to begin!
The littlest things make me greatly happy. I thought this specialized DMC Needle Threader was unique and handy! It’s a 3-in-1 tool! There’s a slim wire to thread through fine needles. Then there are two slim hooks as well. One threads medium weight yarns and the other heavy weight yarns. This little tool will accommodate both short and long needle eyes. Sweet!
I’ve always used cardboard bobbins and just wrote the floss numbers as tiny as I could, but my latest floss storage box came with plastic bobbins. And no…writing the numbers on those just won’t work! DMC Floss Number Stickers to the rescue! I love them! The numbers are clear, easy to read, and fit perfectly on my plastic floss bobbin. The next problem? Wrapping hundreds of bobbins with DMC floss skeins by hand. Not good. Awful. And liable to continue well into the next decade! But then, DMC sent me the niftiest little gizmo and my new favorite thing: DMC Bobbin Winder! This has made the process ten times faster for me! I attach mine directly to the side of my storage box, insert bobbin with its number sticker on, then wrap the thread while watching my favorite shows. A few Britcoms later and I have a whole storage box of floss wrapped! Love it!
While I’ve been designing pumpkin carving for over 20 years, I’m still new to designing for punch needle and cross stitch, though I am loving every minute of it! My biggest challenge? Not having every fiber DMC makes in front of me! But now I do! DMC has a Color Card! Lots of companies have color cards, but those are only photos of the threads and the colors may not show true in a print version. But this color card? THREAD. Each color is actual thread. I now have every color of THREAD they make at my fingertips (and yes, I do pet my color card!)! Brilliant!
Ready to swoon? DMC Diamant is a stunning line of metallic embroidery thread! It comes in a standard (38.2) and a grande size (21.8 yd.). I am drooling over Old Rose, Anthracite Grey, Soft Gold, Dark Gold, Dark Silver, and Light Silver. My stitches are going to shine like a diamond!
While solid colors may have luster, I truly love variegated floss! I enjoy using the variegated pearl cotton balls for punch needle, but DMC Six-strand variegated floss may be used as well. While I’m not fond of separating the floss, I can use all six strands of this at once, and the results are stunning! DMC Color Variations are the best, especially when it comes to filling in punched backgrounds. You can buy each skein individually, or it comes in color packs: Blue Lagoon, Holiday, and Amazon.
I can’t wait to get my shine on with DMC Satin Floss! I just had to hold an entire bunch in my hand because the rich colors felt like a bouquet of jeweled flowers. I have both packs, both the Shiny Pastel Whispers and the Shiny Radiant Treasures and they are gorgeous!
DMC Etoile Ooh La La! It’s so fluffy! And filled with a subtle sparkle. Can’t you just imagine how your stitches will shimmer? Though it may be sold separately, this gurl loves this set because it comes in a shiny silver tin I can keep once the floss is gone (and then I have something to put the floss in again when I get some more!)!
Speaking of tins, DMC also has a new matte gold tin FILLED with 35 NEW FLOSS COLORS! All new colors! Lots of soft shades, perfect for every season. Swoon-worthy!
Are you as shocked as I am now? I had no idea that DMC offered not just so many different types of fiber products, but so many variations of each one, too! And this is just the tip of the iceberg! Check out www.DMC.com for even more stitchy goodness…I promise you won’t be disappointed!
