While February winds may chill the bones and the ground be blanketed in white, our homes are layered with the cheeriest shades of reds, pinks, peaches and purples to warm the dreariest of gray mornings. February is filled with the sweet delights of Valentine’s Day!
Traditionally, flowers held sway as the greatest of gifts, but today’s children and those with childlike hearts? It’s all about…candy! Of course, we love a card covered in hearts and we won’t turn down a dozen red roses, but the quickest way to our hearts is by giving us a tempting little box of tasty treats! Tiny but irresistible, crunchy candy conversation hearts could make even a Grinch smile. Do you remember all the little words crookedly printed across their chalk-textured faces?
We grew up with the classics. Little words like “Hug Me,” “Cutie Pie,” and “Love,” were handed to each other as cute little coded messages. (Alas, I never did get one that said, “Kiss Me,” from the cute boy in History class but at least I get real Valentine kisses from my cute hubby today!) But today’s kids will not have their sayings left out of the word pool! Social media has taught us their lingo, like “Friend Me,” “LOL,” and “Crazy 4 U.” Introverts can even pass on the classic candy message, “Call Me” and happily dole out “Text Me” instead! (As they say, only a monster would call when they could text instead! LOL)
Flowers, chocolates or sweet candy hearts? No matter which is your favorite, everyone’s top choice is just being remembered. It’s why we make things with our hands and our own sweet hearts, and we give them to those we are sweet on, be they friends, family, or the cute boy in History class. Everything we make with our hands is infused with the love in our hearts. Who will you make something for this year?
