Autumn’s cup brims over. Every tree is lit with a brilliant fire of color. Twilight is dressed in rich purples and blues. Iridescent stars twinkle in an inky black sky. But nothing compares to powerful pop of color that is Halloween!
Glowing orange pumpkins dot fields of fading olive grasses. Saturated green witch’s skin wrinkles in a cackling grin. Aged creams and whites dance across skeletal bones. Seal gray headstones stand stark against cerulean skies. Beaver brown creepy trees reach stark, blackened fingers to silver-lined clouds.
With such a riot of color, is it any wonder why Halloween inspires the most delightful patterns?
I can’t get enough of it, especially when rich textures of fiber, floss and fur are thrown in! Who doesn’t want to create a hissing cat of ebony black? How can we not be tempted to use luscious soft threads with names like Cinnamon Swirl or Nantucket Rose? Aged Wine or Bright Orange Coral? Spring Lights or Golden Rust?
Honestly, though it’s difficult for me to choose which type of Halloween colors and designs I love the most, lest I’m attacked by little feet as I sleep, I believe cat designs top my list! Our herd of feline stitching buddies seems to grow every year, so I guess our list of patterns must grow as well! Although everything is covered in cat hair, we can’t imagine our lives without these four-footed little inspirations that give us hours of laughter and comfort, can you?
And I wouldn’t be who I am today without Pumpkins, the most glorious of gourds! I love them in every shape, size and shades of colors. Our tiny front yard is literally piled with pumpkins! And while we love to carve them in intricate ways, I still favor the simplest of designs to carve and punch. A sweet smile of jagged pumpkin teeth will always make my heart flutter. Seriously, are there any designs more fun to make than for Halloween?
