“When witches go riding, and black cats are seen, the moon laughs and whispers, ‘tis near Halloween.”
My favorite vintage Halloween postcards says, “When witches go riding, and black cats are seen, the moon laughs and whispers, ‘tis near Halloween.” I get a thrilling chill up my spine just thinking about it!
I figure there must be a little witch in me. After all, I’ve never met a little black cat I could resist! There has been a pure black cat in my home since I was a baby…just think, 46 years of black cats!
And we have a house rule that there will always be black cats under our roof (and as many other cats as we can fit, too!). At Halloween, we have a porch rule, too: there must always be at least one pumpkin on our porch with a cat design carved in it! Preferably, dozens of them (besides, how can we pick a favorite cat pattern?).
I believe there is actually a little bit of magic in all of us. Ever call someone, and they pick up the phone, answering, “I was just thinking about you!” Leave a little late for work and realize that, had you left on time, you would have been in that aggravating fender bender you just drove by?
Have you brought someone a thoughtful gift because you just thought they needed it…and they did need it, and to see you, at that precise moment?
See? You are magic! In fact, you are made of it! Scientists say that we are made of atoms from stars that exploded eons ago. We are children of the stars! How is that not spectacularly magical?
We are magic by birthright! No wonder we all feel an affection for the stars!
