Are you having a Harvest or Hallelujah party? Setting up for Trunk or Treat? Use these FREE pumpkin carving patterns to Light the Night!
Hallelujah, it’s a harvest party! Or is that a Hallelujah party? Do you celebrate Light the Night? Or our personal favorite, Trunk or Treat? (A car trunk full of candy? Count me in!)
We all celebrate the Autumn holidays in different ways, but there’s something in common we all love: pumpkin carving!
There are a lot of ways people share their faith, and on a pumpkin may be the most fun! Can’t you just imagine decorating your car for Trunk or Treat with pumpkins glowing with a few angels? How about Noah and his ark?
Or Jonah in the whale? Bible verses galore? (you could even quiz the kids, having them name the verse to get the treats!)
One of these patterns stands out from all the rest: The Saviour. It’s a personal favorite of mine. It took quite a bit of time to design. How do you create a portrait of someone you’ve never seen? I had to create a portrait based on the idea of Jesus of Nazareth.
Detailed portraits are incredibly difficult to do, so I wanted this portrait to have a simplified form so that most people, with time and care, could carve it. Sadly, pumpkins don’t show flesh tones, except for an orangey pumpkin flesh, so giving him a skin color was out. What did I want most for you to see? His expression.
What mattered most was that this portrait connected with each person who sees it. The most important part is his eyes. They needed to lock you in from the first second. Challenging but caring. Strong yet soft. Even if you don’t know who this is, after seeing him, you’d want to know more. Mission accomplished if I do say so myself!
So whether you celebrate the harvest or Halloween, just be sure to do it, with pumpkins!
